Homepage Pic thoughts ?
« on: May 09, 2014, 09:46:53 AM »
Any thoughts on why front-suspension mountain bikes feature on the Thorn Home page?

Or any thoughts on what image would be more representative of Thorn?

I have a few ideas and they don't involve mountain bikes and crystal brooks.

Good point! Never really thought about it before. I would guess that there are more non-suspension Thorns than those equipped with suspension.

Perhaps Thorn could run a small competition asking owners so send in their audax/tandem/commuting/touring photos of their bikes for a new
main page photo. Perhaps a page on the site showing owners' Thorn bikes like the Fully Loaded Touring Bike site ...

http://www.loadedtouringbikes.com/about-the-loaded-touring-bike-page-and-gallery/

Anyone think that the Thorn site, though good, is in need of a little spring cleaning and modernisation?

Not up to us of course! Feedback none the less is always good.

What's wrong with a front suspension bike, I have both a front suspension  and touring Thorn.

Nothing 'wrong' with the pic fellow Thorn owner.

You are happy with it, as are probably many others.

Still the question needs to be asked. Is a shady brook with crispy clean riders typical of where Thorn bikes and Thorn riders end up?

My version of 'Thorn' imagery though is fully loaded touring. You know, The Pamirs, The Andes, Outback Australia, Siberia etc with the riders looking slightly worse for wear and at one with their environments.

Graham, I agree, a heavily loaded Nomad on tour would be a more logical home page image.

I think they should have owner photos on the home page that perhaps rotate on a daily/weekly basis. Put it another way, I'm glad Thorn design bikes and not web pages.

This is not my submission for a suitable home page photo, but one for Bobs, the only other Thorn I've seen using a Revelate Gas Tank on the top tube?

That colour combo is brilliant Tony. What was I thinking when I bought a black Sherpa?

The more I see of my new red Audax though, the more I think I am finally getting the hang of this bike buying business :)

The one thing missing from your pic (and the beautifully clean suspension bike pics of Bobs) is/are the heroic rider (s).

Bike meets 20 MPH roundabout pic (thanks Bobs...good try), or a Bike meets fence and grassy hill pic (that's so NZ) might appeal to one or two readers, but I'm thinking we need grimacing expedition type riders in the pic. Ones who set off from Somerset with a fully loaded Thorn and turn up a few months later in Patagonia, Singapore, Sikkim or Greymouth.

It's always good to see pics of Thorn bikes & their owners out riding, whether with or without suspension forks.. the home page is rather dated & would benefit from being refreshed on a regular basis. Likewise Thorn's Facebook page - Why not post our beloved Thorn bikes there too, to share with the world?

Yes that open road pic of yours Bobs is a good one, and more like where I think Thorn bikes take their riders.

John...do you catch critters with your teeth too? Disconcerting isn't it?

And I agree Brummie. Even a new pic or two on the homepage would good. The initial impression to the uninitiated is that it's a MTB site. The site itself has great information and plenty of detail.

Exactly Jim. Now you are getting into the spirit of it.
Images which allow us to live the dream vicariously.
The Stans and the ruggedness of Central Asia seem the natural habitat for Thorn bikes.
