QR skewer question

I have a 9sp block on the back of my Nomad and the QR skewer is a pretty close fit at the best of times.  When I added a Weber hitch to tow our kiddy trailer, the skewer was insufficiently screwed in and just pulled itself loose, threading the bolt in the process.  Is there anyone who makes slightly longer skewers than the regular 135s?  

Would a tandem have wider spaced dropouts so I could use a skewer from a tandem?

shimano do a 145 rear hub for screw on drag brakes that have quick releases, would this be long enough?

This may be a silly question, but did the hitch not come with a longer skewer? It must be a common problem, can Weber not provide one?

'Pitlock' skewers are fairly long in standard form, and they also do a 'long' version which is 20mm longer. Not QR, since they are a security skewer. Nicely made bits of stainless steel with no alloy or plastic bits (except a thin slippy washer) to be seen. Made in Germany and available through your local Orbit dealer.
