Syd's new Nomad goes on it's first tour
« on: May 03, 2009, 03:19:14 PM »
A quick 450km tour as a shakedown for an India (and beyond) tour later this year. Everything worked but those XRs are just soooo slow.... or it could be me, but I blame the tires. Has anyone got an opinion on Conti Travel Contacts?

Pictures shot on infrared film, the first at Gundillion cemetery - just up the road from Ballalaba and Togganoggera in the New South Wales southern highlands (Australia), and the second of a wild campsite near the Badja Swamps Nature Reserve.

I use XRs on a couple bikes and don't find them particularly slow.  They've served me well on all manner of road surfaces and survived loads of abuse so I'll keep buying them.  I haven't had a flat yet!

The new Marathon extreme tires are supposed to be lighter/faster, but I have no experience with them.

Not usually when I'm wild camping in Oz - if no-one knows you're there, then there's no great need. Arriving in India tomorrow and I suspect wild camping won't be as easy.

Those tyres look so cool in infrared.

Seeing you asked about TravelContacts, they are the ones I usually use. Difficult for me to compare with XR's, I've only used a 1.6XR on the front when I couldn't get a TravelContact. Both tyre types have been very reliable. I think the XR might be a bit heavier & the Conti has a quicker looking tread for pavement. All the same, I really don't know if the Conti TravContact will be "quicker".
