Cyclosportif

Training for an ironman. Need (OK "want") a new bike. Comfort way more important than speed. Option might be a carbon fiber "stealth" machine or a Cyclosportif. Will probably not do another ironman, so a stealth bike seems a little extreme. Cyclo seems to make more sense.

What do peeps think - does it make sense to fit clip on tri bars to the cyclo?

It's a tough question. The Cyclosportif is a great looking frame with superb workmanship, a head-turning paintjob and it really does translate your power into forward motion but it's not light - far from it in fact (mine has a steel fork).

Thorn Audax Mk3 ?

It's designed for doing long rides in comfort and at speed.

It's never going to be as quick as a road-race specific machine but it would make a perfect bike for most activities once the IronMan is finished.

It's a well known fact that fitting tri-bars & getting your body aero will improve your speed on the bike - Over Ironman distances it'd be a big time gain. Comfortable too, as your body weight is (partly) supported on your elbows/forearms.
