Thorn Club Tour Mk5 (2022) Size 58L for sale on Ebay
« on: May 22, 2023, 03:09:11 PM »
Hello Everyone

I've never posted on this forum (or in fact any forum!) before, but I'm reluctantly selling my Thorn Club Tour on Ebay. It's only a year old, but a problem with my back has essentially ended my cycling. The description below is copied from Ebay if anyone is interested. Thank you.

Thorn Club Tour Mk5 (2022) Size 58L. Gunmetal Grey

I bought this bike in March 2022, primarily because I had planned to cycle LEJOG and my existing bike needed too many replacement parts to be economically worthwhile. I cycled about 1,000 miles on it before LEJOG, completed the trip, and then used it for a further 1,200 miles or so thereafter. In total it has done exactly 3,422 miles, and had a new chain after 3,000 miles.

There is a slight scratch on the handlebar (caused by a loose map holder one day), but otherwise its condition is almost perfect. Zoom in on the photo to see the scratch - it's pretty minor. I have only ever used dry lubricant and it has had virtually no use during the winter months, so everything is very clean. It has always had a chainstay protector fitted, which again you can see on the photos.

The only reason I am selling the bike is that I have developed a back problem which appears to be unresolvable and has brought my cycling to a premature end at the age of 50. It seems sensible to sell the bike whilst it's in a near-new condition and remains the current model. It's a fantastic bike to ride and I'm selling it very reluctantly.

In terms of sizing, the frame size is 58-L. The Thorn website includes a table for calculating the appropriate frame size depending on your height in bare feet and barefoot standover height. In my case these are 1765mm and 870mm respectively. I have relatively long legs for my height, and my shorter torso is accommodated by using Thorn comfort bars (riser bars) which shorten the reach. The setup could easily be adjusted for anyone taller by using a longer stem and/or swapping the comfort bars for straight bars or even drop bars. There is also a lot of flexibility in handlebar height; the grips are currently about 15mm above saddle height, with the stem flat. There are 12mm of spacers below the stem and 54mm of spacers above the stem. Therefore if the frame size suits your leg measurement you should be able to achieve your desired setup.

The full specification is as follows:

Frame - as described - colour Gunmetal Grey
Fork - disc fork with thru axle
Handlebars - Thorn Comfort Bars with Ergon grips GP1-L
Wheels - DT Swiss Rims, 32 Spokes, Shimano Deore hubs, 35C Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tyres with tubes
Groupset - Shimano Deore
Disc Brakes - TRP Spyke mechanical - front and rear
Gearing - 44/36/24 and 11-36 (10-speed cassette) - note that I had Thorn change the inner chainring from 26T to 24T, so the unused 26T is available as a spare.
Pedals - Shimano PD-GR500 flat MTB pedals
Saddle - Brooks B17 (brown) - this pre-dates the Thorn bike, and has probably done 8,000 miles. It's very comfortable (for me!)
3 x bottle cages (Profile Design)
Thorn Expedition rear carrier rack
SKS Mudguards - 700c x 45mm
Spur cycles bell (expensive item itself)
Cateye BM45 mirror - if this is not required then I still have the original plug for the end of the bars.
6 x spare spokes
There is also a Cateye computer fitted. It's a fairly old and basic model, but included in the sale.

Hi Jon!

However brief your tenure, welcome aboard. Thinking a direct link to your eBay ad and photos might help make the sale, so here is the listing...

Wishing you all good luck on the sale of this lovely bike and sympathy and empathy for the back condition forcing sale. Hoping that will resolve at some point so we can see you back in the saddle again someday.

All best wishes, Dan.

What a really nicely spec'd bike and such a shame you won't get to use it as intended.  Hope it finds an appreciative buyer and you find something else that gives you as much pleasure.

A beautiful bike - and really low gears!  I had the same gearing on my Sherpa, so even slightly lower as 26" wheels - the main concern was whether I would topple over backwards!
