45mm mudguard on an Audax mk3 fork
« on: February 14, 2016, 06:08:49 PM »
Hi folks,

first post, so go easy on me, I don't even own a Thorn!   :-[

I'm looking to maximise tyre clearance on my Soma ES, 35mm or 33mm tyres would be ideal, to help in this end I'll be replacing the carbon fork on it currently with a steel one. The Thorn Audax mk3 fork looks like a good candidate.

So my question is: has anyone successfully mounted a 40-45mm mudguard on the MK3 fork? I'll probably be using the Tektro R539 which should have enough clearance.

I've just measured the guards on my Mk3 - they are SKS chromoplastic and come out at 36mm. There is about a 3-4mm gap on each side, so you might fit 40mm guards but not 45mm. I'm running 28mm Panasonic Ribmos. Would you be better looking at a Club Tour fork instead?
