Mudguards on a Mercury
« on: January 05, 2015, 08:20:48 PM »
I have the pleasure of living in South Devon...no tears, please. Steep roads, single track, beautiful views. But the over-riding impression at this time of year is ....mud. Roads coated in it, and when it rains, it turns into an unending supply of slick red lubricant, spread liberally anywhere.

I've got a beautiful Mercury; stealth black, 700c X 25 tyres, clearances fit for a Rizla, carbon asymmetric fork on the front. But, I really need mudguards. I've tried bits out of the shed. Spares, long neglected. I even went for a set of crud catcher racing blades. Nothing fitted.

So, this weekend, I got a new pair of Blumells black Chromoplastic aluminium things, with an off road crud catcher as well. And..tada.. fixed. Nice long mudguard on the back, cruddy on the front, no spray, dry feet, all good. Braking is still scary on the tiny tyres, but the red spray is gone.

No excuses. Get out there and ride!

Waiting for the rain to stop for long enough that I can get a camera out...

My only regret: it's a red Hope front hub, nothing to complain about, but a red SON would be my dream!

spent some hours trying to get them to fit, but wasn't happy with clearances or the strength of the joints: having to clear the disc caliber was part of the problem and minimal clearance the rest.
