Welcome! Great to have mercury owners on here. I'm sure they are a great bike and it will be interesting to learn what they are capable of.
I like the sound of the grey-red combo. Looking forward to the first pics.
-
Welcome Jamie sounds like a cracking bike not a lot of mercury owners on the forum so look forward to some photos and ride report ,best of luck with he new baby .
jags.
-
Looks like a great spec, how long till you get this wonderful machine?
-
Thanks everybody. Only three weeks to go...
-
Welcome Jamie, bike sounds fantastic in a great colour scheme.
Sounds like SJS are keeping busy this week! And here is me worried about paying my bill when I pick the bike up in 3 weeks, but I think I would prefer mine to yours. Let me know when you pick yours up as I may be able to say Hi.
Hope you enjoy the Mercury, they look brilliant bikes and look forward to the pictures.

Thanks Jackie, your bike sounds amazing. I have a 26" mountain bike with an 8 speed Alfine I converted for road use (rigid fork, schwalbe durano's etc) and a converted Brompton S1E with an 11 speed Alfine I use for Road. But neither do the 110k's I aspire to without some degree of compromise. I did the sums and if I keep the Mercury 100 years I think can justify the cost :)
I'm having to have my bike delivered but hopefully my LBS will tweak the initial service for me, not ideal, the SJS service sounds wonderful but hey ho...
Look forward to seeing the pics of the RED one

Ooh, I can't wait for photos of this gunmetal bike with red accents. In the long ago and far away, when we were both young, I had an Austin-Healey 3000 in gunmetal with red leather... Welcome Jackie; we like people with taste.
-
I'm sure this will make an amazing bike. Mercury is my favourite bike in the Thorn range. Congratulations!

Hi Jamie,
Looking forward to seeing your new bike in the flesh.
Hopefully you are going to have an open day for visiting and i think your father-in-law is just as excited as you!
(Jamie and i live about 200 yards apart and guess what he has ordered his Mercury in exactly my size! Happy days!)
Cheers
Steve

Got an email from Lisa at SJS, bike half built :-)

The gunmetal grey and red sounds a brilliant combination. I have not actually seen a mercury in the flesh, so to speak. On receipt of your new beauty ,a few photographs would be appreciated.( Beware of Swislon !!. )

Drool... :o :)
Coincidentally, I've been reading the Mercury brochure myself lately - thinking of another home build project. I'm really looking forward to seeing this stripped-down speed machine!
-
Looking forward to the build & pics!
-
Really exciting!! Bet you can't wait. I was hoping to have heard something from SJS myself this week, but nothing. Have emailed them a couple of times but no word yet. I know my completion date was due for 2nd May which is not far away now. ;D
-
bikerta everything for 02/05/14 is currently done or in QC waiting for final checks, so you should be hearing from us today/tomorrow. :)

Hi Jackie,
Great news, so won't be long now, and remember the photographs. ;D

Can't wait to ride it at the weekend.

-
Jackie, that Thorn brown box arriving is well worth the wait! Won't be long now!
-
Wow! What a fantastic looking bike! Those colours are perfect. If I was looking for a fast machine, that is the exact bike and colours that I would go for. Congratulations.
By the way, I think you set a record for how quickly you built it: 78 seconds, by my calculations. :)
08:19:48 PM -- It's here!
08:21:06 PM -- Built!

Dave, my Father in Law is handy with the Allen keys :D
Thanks for the compliment. I'm thrilled with it!

That is a great looking bike. I hope it brings you, all you want and more.

Beautiful looking bike, love the red accents against the grey. It looks HUGE though against my little bike. Spoke with SJS today and my bike is also ready. As I am only an hour or so away from Bridgwater, I shall be collecting mine (as long as I can fit it in the KA!) that way I can have it fitted to me. Now the bad part, due to me having to teach all day tomorrow and Friday, and it being a Bank Holiday on Monday and me not having access to a car on Tuesday, I can't pick it up until next Wednesday. THAT'S A WHOLE WEEK TO WAIT :'(
I am sure it will go quickly enough, but frustrating knowing it's there ready. Seeing everyone else's new bike has really whet my appetite though.

Gunmetal grey and red accents make for a stunning bike. It is a real beauty.

Congratulations, looks great! Interested to know how you are going to use it and how it performs.
-
very nice enjoy ;)
-
It looks just as great in the flesh and surprisingly light!
His father-in-law Paul has some great bikes and even he is jealous! :D
Looking forward to hearing how Jamies first ride goes at the weekend.

Jamie!
What a gorgeous bike! Your new Mercury is one for the ages, and I love, love, love the color combo you chose, complete with matching headset as well (Swislon's Club Tour looks mighty fine as well, showing the New Mercury the way). What terrific photos as well; looking forward to many more of this fabulous new addition. All congratulations your way!
Jackie! Yours will soon come, have faith! Keep thinking happy thoughts and Wednesday Next will soon be here. I can't wait to see photos if it as well, and I hope the days, hours, and minutes pass soon so you can be united with it soonest. Have you chosen a name yet?
All the best to you both,
Dan. (...who just loves seeing the arrival of new Thorns on the Forum's gallery)

Jackie,

First ride out :)
Thirty ish hilly miles yesterday, from the moment I opened the garage and pedalled it was a revelation!
Smooth, effortless and Fast! I can only compare to my hybrid and Brompton but its in a different league. The fork absorbs all the road chatter, the longer cranks give a feeling of more travel per rotation and the gears are perfectly set for effortless forward momentum. From standstill on a steep hill it became apparent how light it is, the front wheel lifted....
All in all I had a wonderful time up and down very steep hills and arrived home feeling like I could go out and do it all again.
I normally suffer buyers remorse after a purchase but not this time. Very pleased with my Mercury, especially pleased with the service from Thorn.
Highly recommend this bike setup to anyone who wants to ride medium pace in comfort, whilst grinning from ear to ear.

Oh! Something tells me we're soon to be treated to wonderful ride reports and photos!
Very much looking forward to it, Jaimie. So pleased and excited for you; nothing like having a new bike meet high expectations, then exceed them.
Best wishes for many happy journeys beneath your wheels.
Dan.
