Very nice.  Anyone want to compare and contrast with the current audax mk3 that can be had for a similar price, but not in orange!

A quick scan inclined me to think it's measurements were close to that of a Mercury but comparing and contrasting I'll leave to more expert eyes.

Looking at the head badge on that Nomad I would have guessed it to be one of the earlier Reynolds 531 veriety not the 725

It's got a 725 sticker on the seat tube though.

Any Sterlings likely to appear Dave, especially for a 5ft 7 incher with a 30 inch inleg?

Thanks

has it (the Nomad) been resprayed/ powder coated lately ?
as the red O in the  Thorn dt sticker  looks to be a bit out of place, thought that came in in later models?, not being pernickety , it's just that seeing it made me wonder if the down tube stickers were available to buy, for a confirmed Thorn sale/bike? bought a couple in bare metal awhile back and would like the proper decals if still available

It is a 725 frame for sure as its 27.2mm post, all the 531 frames were 27.0mm and had wreath of Thorn headbadges.

Yes as with most the Nomads they were part constructed by LA for us in the UK.

Sadly not, Sterling's were only ever here in the days of computerized stock control so have all been accounted for and sold :-(

Yes about a week ago, they are self adhesive transfers that must only be applied over lacquer, yes I can supply some, just give us a call 01278 441505

Hello Andy - you are looking for a Sterling??

Can't help you there, but I have a Ripio frame / fork (sus and Mt Tura) that I am likely to be selling in the spring - I don't think my sons, who I was keeping it for, will want it.

Good condition, suited me (5'9" tall) very well until I swapped components over to a Sherpa build.  Some components available, including cranks, levers and so on.

A derailleur frame, of course, I think the Sterling was Rohloff specific.

Let me know if you want more details.

Lewis

Lewis, I am looking for a whole bike really.  The only spares that I have is a dynohubbed wheel.  Rohloff would be preferable too.  Thanks a lot for the heads-up though.

Hi Lewis

I'll be interested in the ripio frame / sus forks, if you do sell them.

Thanks

Re he head badges I have two 531 Nomads both with the same headtube badge as the green one you are selling as 725 so it is either a 531 or that headtube badge was used on both models. My understanding is that the 725 ones are have the wreath of thorns and the 531 have the Thorn Nomad cross on them. Any more info would be appreciated

I love it how Thorn Forum Members always ask questions! But at the same time doubt the provenance of Thorn built cycles
even those offered by the manufacturer !!

Everyone is able to make mistakes - even Thorn. If you see something you think is wrong and do not question it then I think you would be daft

I owned a new Nomad in 531 tubing.
The headbadge was stainless steel.

So that would seem to confirm that the 531 was available with either of the two headbadges

Here is a link to the Nomad info from thorn showing the wreath headbadge and 725 tubing so the plot thickens

Just checked, we used to use the wreath on all Nomads, around the same time we went 531-725 we trialed the shield one as this one has, then the very late 725 went back to a wreath of Thorns. So the head badge isn't a definitive way to tell either, however this one is 725 for sure as it has a 27.2mm seat post and all 531's were 27.0mm, the tubing was also embossed as 725 (which I can't show you as its now painted).

Hope this clears any confusion, apologies for the minefield I seem to have created  ;)

No probs Dave and thanks for the clarification. These really were fantastic bikes and I am sure whoever ends up with it will be more than happy.

Contributing to 'Archive Hour' here is a link to Thorns of yesteryear. My Mk1 Nomad ( 531 with shield) is in there as a no. 67

Hi Dave
nice to have spoken to you  :)

jags you want a link with old pics, i stumbled a cross this one the other day, http://web.archive.org/web/20050420000110/http://www.sjscycles.com/store/vIndex.htm
the display/used bikes is where i got the pics, that i posted in another thread (100 views and no one commented lol you lot have no souls), never seen so many thorn pics in one place, so saved them in case the wayback machine loses them
the only decent pics of a Nemesis i/'ve seen are in there

btw on the wayback machine it shows a date range in graph form you can use it to navigate over a few months

Bill,

In thanks for your efforts to find/post/save the photos, I made your topic "sticky" so it will remain easily found at the beginning of the topic list for the Thorn General board.

Best,

Dan.
