XTC max tyre width?
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:18:35 pm »
Have acquired a second hand XTC (built 2002). Does anyone know what the maximum possible tyre width is? There looks to be plenty of room, possibly up to 2.0 with guards but am keen to confirm before investing in expensive rubber.

Thanks

I seem to remember a 2.0" tyre would fit ( except possibly the smaller sized frames ) but mudguards might be an issue. The XTC was intended largely as a lightweight touring bike & was mostly specced with 1.5" or 1.75" tyres -  2.0" tyres would generally be heavier & overkill.

Thanks Brummie. I'm thinking ahead to winter and am contemplating having studded tyres eg marathon winter to hand to keep me rolling in case of a repeat of last year's icy weather. As far as I can recall they only come in 2.0 width.

Yep, Marathon Winter come in 26" x 1.75". I've just checked the pair sitting by my desk here in the office, waiting for me to advertise them... Brummie, if you're interested please send a PM.
