Could someone tell me what the size of frame this is , or rather what equates to a 21" frame. I have sent a pm but this may be too small.
Regards Alfie.

Hello,
I have also sent a pm.
Thank you

That's a really subtle color for a touring bike. At night, turning up at the opera, it would look black and sedate, and in sunshine it won't look like you're going to a funeral, very racey in BRG, very British, you know. I like it! Not surprised at all to discover there are two aspirant new keepers already...
-
472S ??? - Looks like the smallest Raven.
-
I can't work out how the shifter is fitted. The OP says "Hubub drop bar adaptor for Rohloff twist grip", but the shifter is mounted to the stem. How has he done it?
-
Looks to me like the shifter is mounted to the steering tube with a nifty widget that takes the place of a space, like an auxiliary bar cut down severely. Haven't seen one of those before but looks perfectly practical.
-
I am guessing that somebody just sawed off a Thorn accessory bar to make that mount. Clever!
-
Here is a Rodriguez device that works the same way
http://www.rodbikes.com/articles/popups/rohloff-shifter/shifter-doohickey.html (http://www.rodbikes.com/articles/popups/rohloff-shifter/shifter-doohickey.html)
which I found here
http://cyclingabout.com/index.php/2011/11/rohloff-hubs-with-drop-handlebars/ (http://cyclingabout.com/index.php/2011/11/rohloff-hubs-with-drop-handlebars/)
but it still doesn't look quite the same as that on the bike being offered here!
-
yeah at least one person has chopped off a Thorn accessory bar to mount the shifter:

Hi Alfie
I would guess 21 inches equates to a 537 mm virtual seat tube, and given the short looking top tube I would say this is probably a 537S Raven Tour.
To be sure, best to ask the seller to quote the details under the bottom bracket.

Hi Jim,
I spoke to the seller, and what a pleasant lady she is. We agreed that I should speak to SJS and get all the details regarding the bike first. I would have liked to have bought this bike but it seems that it is a 512s,and on speaking to SJS, was told that it would probably be a bit on the small side for me. No doubt whoever gets this bike will be getting a cracking bike . Good luck to seller and buyer.
Regards Alfie.

Hi there,
I've sent you a PM.
Cheers
Neil.

I was taking a close look at the pictures and am wondering if that is the standard configuration for the rear brake cable and noodle on the Raven Tour?
-
The rear brake cabling sure looks like what's on my Nomad.
-
On my Raven Tour, which is about the same vintage, the noodle is on the same side but the brake cable runs down the far side (as looking at the photo) of the top tube, then loops round behind the seat post to the noodle.
The mounting of the shifter is very neat, isn't it. I really prefer drop bars but am persevering with the flats for the moment - still looking for the right bar ends.
-
Thanks Donerol, that's what I was thinking, the brake cable looped around the other side or the seat tube and with the noodle more upright, I guess either way is fine so long as the noodle doesn't interfere with the paintwork. It's a beautiful looking bike just looking for a new owner.
-
I got those drops from SJS cycles and they work fine with the gear shifter on the stem. I hate flats as they cause my my wrists to ache after an hour or two.
It look as if this bike is now sold by the way.
-
Yes, Just sent the cheque and so looking forward to enjoying my new bike.
Thank you to everyone who has offered kind advice regarding my bike choice. Very much appreciated.

Steve

Congratulations, Steve! That looks like a really beautiful bike! It's sure to be a delightful way to get around!
-
Congratulations, Steve. That dark green is absolutely the tastiest color available on any Thorn. Yeah!

Agreed, but unfortunately Thorn customers didn't like it so much, or so Thorn say, and the colour has been dropped from the range, despite it being possibly the most common colour to appear in photos of Thorn bikes from the past ten years or so.

Sadly true, sales figures don't lie! It used to be really popular I suppose tastes must be changing.
-
Brilliant, I've just bought a green one! Might acquire rarity value or at least prove I'm not well aligned to contemporary tastes. I've enjoyed the understated black for the last few years but do appreciate the traditional qualities of British racing Green.

Conservatively reliable while being unostentatiously fast.

Now how on earth am I going to park up a fluorescent pink Nomad at Glyndbourne this summer?! It simply has to be BRG. The Boat Race, Ascot, Lords; oh the ignominy of it all! ;)

You can at least make Henley where the Leander club favour pink and would approve I'm sure....
