Get referred to another doc.  Second opinions are always a good idea.
I had lower back pain for years, doc gave me some lovely pills which made me very happy.
Then went to another doc who said I had gallstones.  One keyhole op later - fixed.

That's a strange one Jags, I've just had a look at your Audax in the gallery again (any excuse  ;D) to see if it could be your pedal platform being too small causing hotspots but they look plenty broad enough so I reckon it rules that out. Did you have any trouble on your Raleigh? Maybe you may need to tweak your riding position.
I would get a second opinion just to ease your mind, nothing worse than aches and pains spoiling a ride.

Neil this all started when i done the Camino 2007, i remember that well going over one of the mountain passes the pain in my foot was somthing else could not figure out what the hell was going on until the very last ride 7 days later  ::) when i noticed i had put my bars on a full inch out of centre,
honest i never noticed it until then i think i was so excited being in spain for the first time, i'm a geek for sure  ;D ;D.all joking aside its been getting worse ever since, pain in my  lower back most of the time i can kinda cope with that but the feet is another thing,
yeah also had it on the raleigh.look kx light. trek.now the audax also get it on long walks .
i might try a shorter stem 80mm on the audax using 110 at the moment i did adjust saddle height and shoved it forward full inch which i find a lot better, the bike is probably a bit on the long side for me but not by much,i should be riding a 48cm frame to be honest but i could always fit myself into any bike.ah this body is getting old me thinks not as supple as i once was.
sure hope the doctor can sort something out for me no fun being in pain.

could be plantar fasciitis, just a shot in the dark. Here is a bit of discussion:

Anto, what's your shoes/cleats/pedals setup?

About 12-13 years ago, I was using Shimano SPD cleats with mountain bike shoes (this, on my first high-quality bike), and I started having serious hot-spots and pain on the balls of my feet, after about 80 kms (say, 3 - 4 hours on the road.)

I went to my LBS (in Pretoria, South Africa -- some distance from Ottawa, Canada, where I'd bought the bike!) and the guys there sold me a pair of Sidi shoes with rigid soles and ratchet-adjustable fastenings; plus Look pedals and Keo cleats.  Never had a problem since.  That setup was expensive, though - like, very expensive.

Preparing for my new Raven, in the past year or two, I thought I'd try another setup so that I could wear shoes I could use for walking off the bike.  I put the Look/Keo/Sidi grupo aside for the moment, & started using good quality flat pedals (MTS Light Touring, Japanese made), with Soma metal-and-leather clips.  Nice combination.  Then, I thought I could use good quality light day-hiking hoes with these pedals.  Well, I could for about 50 kms, but no more: the soles of the shoes were too flexible, and aggravated a growing condition I have in my feet, "Morton's neuroma", again in the balls of my feet.  Any distance above 50-60 kms became just too uncomfortable.  I went back to my Sidis, etc. -- no problem.  The key factor, I think, is the rigid sole.  Maybe I could have found a stiff-soled shoe that would mate with my MTS pedals & toe clips; or maybe not. Either way, I didn't want to spend another couple of hundred dollars trying to find out, esp when I knew that my Sidi-Look-Keo setup worked just fine.

So, I went back to the Sidis, and kept my MTS-&-toe clips for my city bike (short runs for shopping, etc.)  When I'm riding on the Raven or my old Eclipse, I take along some cleat covers for short walks off the bike on tarmac, etc., and for touring, I take along a pair of light walking shoes or 'Crocs' sandals, depending on the weather, the terrain, etc.

I never had any foot problems at all until I was in my mid-50's (a decade-plus ago now!).  For the cycling, I've found that the combination of a rigid sole and a roomy toe box has worked for me. Oddly enough, I've never had any problems with hiking, cross-country skiing, etc.

Hope this info is useful, though I don't assume that my problems/solutions will work for others.  My experience may suggest some things to discuss with your foot doctor, however.

Good luck in any case -- John

My wife and I use a good Chiro who insists we help ourselves. He often gives us free advice as he is a true heeler.

We too had odd sharp pains in our feet. Me on the sole my wife in the toe.

It turned out the the outer side of the calf muscle was too tight.
We massage/press the calf area with our thumb finger. If it hurts like hell it means the calf is tight and is pull other muscles in your ankle. After a day or two the foot pain is gone.

Good luck

Just be glad you are not a horse.  They appear to put them down at the slightest opportunity !
(On the other hand some go to stud !) :D

Plantar fasciitis is under the heel so won't be that. Could be Morton's neuroma though that would usually cause pain and burning/tingling into 2 toes only. Could be metatarsalgia (pain under heads of metatarsal bones) caused by a change in the shape of your feet (with age?!!) such as loss of transverse arch or too tight a toe box. You could try putting a strip of sticky backed orthopaedic felt (from chemist) under the balls of your feet in your shoes. If you need a 2nd opinion ask to see a biomechanical podiatrist (or pay to see one if the NHS wait is too long)
Good luck
