Unloaded Nomad Mk.1... Shermy
« on: October 06, 2013, 07:44:29 PM »
I've recently had a few months away from a tour of the Americas I started back in May 2010. This has allowed me to lavish some love on my Nomad, Shermy. I'm always interested in how people set up their rides so for like minded folks I've attached some pictures of my newly refurbished travel companion. It may interest people to know that the only parts of this bike that started my tour are the frame, Rohloff Speedhub, seat post, cranks, rear rack, accessory bar and brake levers. Literally everything else has been replaced one or more times. We're heading to Colombia in a couple of weeks to resume where we left off (http://velofreedom.wordpress.com)

When loaded I ride full frame bags, front and back panniers, booster pack and bar bag. Water gets carried with the addition of a cage under the down tube and one up top courtesy of a King Cage top cap mount.

Get on your bikes and ride them.  ;)

Hi VF!

My, Shermy the Nomad is looking good -- almost factory-fresh and certainly ready for the next leg of your journey.

I'm surely glad you did. Looking at others' bike setups is always fun and one never fails to see something new or different.

Some changes on Shermy, too: I see you've swapped the butterfly 'bars you had earlier ( http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4306.msg19958#msg19958 ) for straight ones and from from the original Thorn Low-Loader MkV lowriders to an Old Man Mountain platform front rack. Looks like the stem-mounted bottle carrier is gone as well. Always interesting to see how riders' needs change and evolve and the bike is adapted to new priorities or small shortcomings are addressed with new and better solutions.

Happy travels on a wonderful machine!

Best,

Dan.
