I realize it might not be the "official" S&S case you are seeking, but I have heard of and seen other sorts of suitcases working to hold S&S-equipped single bikes. As I recall, there was one model/edition of a Samsonite case available on the market not long ago that did a wonderful job. The model designation escapes me at the moment, but I remember it came in a bright yellow, red, or orange color and was much less expensive and just as protective. I believe the dimensions were 26"x26"x10". If I can find a link, I'll let you know.

Just thinking, it might open some more possibilities for you....

Thank you very much for the reply. Very interesting. If you were able to find a samsonite model number that would be most helpful as I'm reluctant to pay the somewhat high price for a new S&S case and the "sale" cases left in the States don't seem to comply with airline regs which rather misses the point.

While I have a Thorn Raven (which I love) it is not equipped with couplings. I'm not sure if it's allowed to mention mountain bike on this forum (!) but I'm actually after the case to fit an Ibis Tranny which I've just built up with the intention of using mainly as a travel bike. Hi Phil!

Though it isn't a Thorn, your lovely I**s T****y MTB *might* fit into this case:

It closely resembles the ones I have seen used in the past. You'd need to check dimensions, however, and not all of them are listed at the above link. Remember, the case needn't be 26x26x10 to fit everything...but the overall dimensions should equal those (and be sure to check with *your* planned airline of use, as some have even smaller acceptable dimensions before adding an overage charge; the acceptable sizes are getting smaller by the day, it seems).

I have nearly finished brazing my full-sus Folder from scratch, and I'm going back through my materials from when I began the project. I know I have the specific model Samsonite case data somewhere...but it hasn't fallen ready to hand as yet. I'll keep looking and let you know if I can find it.

Thanks again. You are correct that it doesn't need to be 26x26 but all of the rectangular cases that I've looked at are too narrow to take a full size 26in MTB wheel (albeit I know that it isn't actually 26in diameter) so something squarish seems to be what I'll need
