Wanted Thorn Sherpa/Raven/Nomad
« on: August 25, 2012, 05:46:16 PM »
Hi,

I am after a 2nd hand T26" wheel Thorn be it a sherpa/raven/nomad.  I'm not fussy if it is derailleur or rohloff but want straight bars not drops.  I am 5' 11'' and i 'think' a 565 would be the right size.   It's a guess that would be about the right size from the charts on the thorn website but i've never ridden one.  I live no where near their shop in somerset so visiting is tricky espicially with them not open at weekends. (Sure that is a common problem!)
If anyone has one for sale or sees one advertised would be grateful if you could drop me a line.

thanks in advance.

Hi Iain!

You've just taken the first-best step toward owning a second-hand Thorn bike of your dreams by posting your "wanted" announcement; well done, and good luck! This is an excellent way to find what you want among enthusiasts who can readily advise you and are likely to respond.

To better your chances further, may I also suggest keeping an eye on this Forum's Bikes For Sale Board:
http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?board=16.0

Please don't neglect SJS Cycles as a possible source. They often make available used, returned, overstocked, or shop-demo Thorn bicycles at sizable discounts. If the bikes are listed as new, they will often specify a new-bike warranty; used models will not carry a warranty, of course. To see the available listings, go here:
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/clearance-zone-dept756_pg1/

Both SJS Cycles and Thorn maintain Facebook pages, and good bargains often appear there, only to be snapped up quickly by an eager audience. To see these pages, go to:
SJS Cycles: https://www.facebook.com/pages/St-John-Street-Cycles/101262449921655
Thorn Cycles: https://www.facebook.com/Touringbikes

Dealing with Forum members or SJSC/Thorn avoids many problems, but there are other venues where you can find Thorn bikes if you exercise the usual cautions. Gumtree is one ( http://www.gumtree.com/ ), Donedeal in Ireland is another ( http://www.donedeal.ie/donedeal/ ), and the United Kingdom's home version of eBay is also a rich source. Just go to ebay.co.uk and enter the search string, "Thorn Bike" (no quotes) and you'll see the listings. For your convenience, I have made a customized search link available here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=thorn+bike&_sacat=0

SJS Cycles has its own eBay page where accessories, components, and occasionally bicycles are listed:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sjs_cycles/m.html?hash=item27b32a0705&item=170509600517&pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&_trksid=p4340.l2562

I hope this helps you find the Thorn of your dreams. Welcome to the Forum; you'll find a pleasant and generous community of enthusiasts here, all willing to help answer your questions.

Best,

Dan.

Iain,

This is simply wonderful news! I'm so very happy for you, and can't wait to see photos and a complete description of your "own" new Thorn Raven Tour. Even if it has been pictured here before, it wasn't yours then, and you'll very soon personalize it and make it "just right" for your needs. As you settle in and get used to each other, I hope you'll post photos to the gallery of your new pride and joy.

What a happy outcome for buyer and seller alike!  Congratulations all-'round!

Best,

Dan.
