Thanks, Dan. The QR ties are a bit, er, agricultural in appearance, & might lower the tone of the neighbourhood a bit on Tom's handlebars, so to speak -- don't really complement Pete's stylish work very well.
Yes, I saw the money-clip function -- bit of a stretch, really, I think they'd be better off selling a brightly-coloured specialized device. (This, however, from someone who's never used a money-clip.)
But I have found the QR ties endlessly useful: Three 4" ones served very well this past week as 3rd, 4th & 5th hands while I was rotating my front and rear tires--my Vittoria foldables simply refuse to stay seated unless I fix them to the rim immediately after I ease 18" of the tube inside. (Once I have three QR ties at 12, 3, and 6 o'clock, the Vittorias shrug and submit, and I can complete mounting the tire.) The 8" ones will tension my tent vestibule doors nicely in a partly-open-still-protective position; and one on each piece of rain gear keeps that tightly rolled up. The 12" ones do the same for my deflated & tightly folded Thermarest, and can also provide a good anchor on a tree branch if I need to extend a bungee when I rig a tarp.
One can/can keep the 4" QR ties on the handlebar, just under the brake hoods, and use one or two of the rubber bands to lock the brake -- but your bar + tape has to be 4" in circumference; anything less and the QR tends to drift down the bar to freedom. So, I usually keep the QR ties in a pocket. (Keep them tucked away all over the bike & my person, in various lengths...)
