What decals I see look like the same as mine, built in November 2010.

The ebay listing has been ended by the seller.

Not surprised, Jim; there's something just not quite right...

Best,

Dan.

Hi all,to  end the speculation I have have bought the bike,it was the one on ebay back in Feb.It was bought to tour  on and a few things added, thorn rear rack and surly front along with new electrical system but the buyer has developed a health problem and had to sell it.It has a good home now as I intend to leave on a world tour next year.

Congratulations Tim on getting a very fine bike, "pimped" I think was one of the descriptions!

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on with it, I am particularly interested in the handlebars i.e. how narrow can you get them with the Rohloff changer?

A world tour is the ideal use for such a bike, enjoy.

I believe She's/He's/It's made in England, the silvered on metal badges indicate this.

Check the XTC on SJS cycles, it has the same badge, so does my XTC. The gentleman who used to build the frames for Thorn is still going.

Enjoy your tour! :)
And may the saddle be pimped too... ;)
Pedal to the metal! Wind, rain, hills, braking power permitting ;)

Oh! Wonderful, Tim!

I am so glad the "story" turned out well, and the bike has a loving new home...and new adventures awaiting!

All the very best to you, along with good wishes for a safe and happy journey ahead.

Hello Tim,

Congratulations on your purchase, It is a beauty, may you have many happy miles together.

I'm glad that on this occasion it turned out to be an honest sale.

We were correct to pick up on the fact that the advert wasn't quite right, though it turned out to be for different reasons than we were nervous about.

Well done for you going to see it in person and making a deal out with ebay. I'd guess you got a good deal.

I wonder if, had the seller said that it was for resale through ill health, would he have got some bids on the auction.

Anyway, hope to hear of the adventures to come in the future.

Cheers,

Iain.

Having been subject to theft (and recovery as posted elsewhere) of my bike first offered on ebay, the listing spotted for "Thorn Reynolds 853 Touring Bike" looks distinctly suspicious to me. My experience was poor quality photography (definitely not showing anywhere identifiable) and poor/incorrect description with other bikes listed by the same seller in a similar manner.  May be legit, but agree strongly recommend caution/ask to see before you buy.

If you look at the feedback the vast majority of what's been sold is bicycle related. Full bicycles, frames and other bicycle parts. The frame sizes seem to vary a bit. Mostly positive feedback.

I would agree that caution needs to be used as with any ebay transaction.
