Retrofit mudguards
« on: September 07, 2011, 12:47:59 pm »
My EXP came with SKS mudguards fitted, but I over estimated the size of tyres I would be using (I thought 2.5" max, but I'm often on 1.5").  As a result my mudguards look very big, so I'd like to replace them with something a bit more streamlined.

What are peoples' recommendations for self-fit mudguards? Some that clip on and off would be great for travelling/summer, but I know they're not always that great.

Neil,
Why not just go with narrower SKS?

That way you can use the current stays, just add an extra spacer or two to fill the gap between the new mudguards and frame fixing points such as under the fork crown.
You will also be able to retain the short rear stays fastening to the rear Thorn rack.

You then have the option of reverting to the original mudguards if circumstances ever warrant it.
