We carry shower caps and now use while riding in rain. The Brooks covers have a short lifetime, presumably as mentioned, owing to riding on them. I generally apply a very thin layer of proofhide each year and like the honey brown rejuvenation sheen it gives. Unfortunately, this year our riding was very limited. A herniated disk caused agony. I could ride (and did) hundreds of miles, but could not walk for more than 100 m, now recovering from back surgery. The surgeon assures me I'll be on the honey brown within 2 month after surgery. Sucks getting old, but we still have our sights on the Loire valley.

These saddle covers https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09V4ZRT2V are reasonably priced and don't feel like plastic.

Here in Oregon, RandiJo Fabrications has been producing handmade, tailored saddle covers for some time. Despite the premium price of USD$35, they have a devoted following (they don't happen to fit my taste or preferences) in part because they are intended to be ridden upon *and* have a clever flap to protect the underside of the saddle.

Mike, have been away, and returning, I see this: could not walk for more than 100 m, now recovering from back surgery. The surgeon assures me I'll be on the honey brown within 2 month after surgery. Sucks getting old

Oi, oi,oi -- hope you're recovering well.  Modern surgery can do remarkable things, for sure.  And, as for getting old, my niece's husband in NW Montréal says, "C'est pas fun, eh?"

3-4 years on from twin hip surgeries, I've had chronic low-level discomfort in my left hip flexors.  Happily, I've found an acupuncturist and have done several hour-long treatments over the past month.  I thought I'd just have to live with the discomfort, but after just two sessions: gone, completely.

Best wishes,

John
