Thorn Nomad Mk3 DISC fork LOOKING
« on: Today at 02:41:04 PM »
Hey everyone,
I'm on the hunt for a Thorn Nomad Mk3 fork the one with 48 mm offset (the "A" version for the bigger frames like 55L, 58L, 61 etc.). I know it's a bit of a unicorn these days, so this is probably a long shot...
SJS has them new, but I'm in Poland and the combo of shipping + customs makes it sting quite a bit more than I'd like. So before I bite the bullet, I thought I'd ask the forum: does anyone have a spare Mk3 fork (48 mm offset) sitting around that they'd be happy to see go to a good home?
Would be super grateful for any leads or offers Fingers crossed someone has one hiding in the shed!
Cheers,
Karol (Poznań)

This may make a few £ difference - if you buy from Poland you should not pay UK VAT on new forks.

You'd then pay VAT on import so is doesn't really make any difference.

Good luck with your search.
If you're unsuccessful, you might consider other manufacturers that are easier to get hold of.  The geometry of the disc fork is as you say 48mm offset and the A>C is 410mm.  The rim brake fork for the same frame is 46mm offset and 390 A>C, which produces about the same trail, you wouldn't notice the difference apart from the brakes.  The Surly Disc Trucker 700c fork is 45mm, 390mm A>C so pretty much a direct replacement, available QR and TA, it's also a very common size.  A few mm either side isn't going to make a significant difference, I'd be unlikely to notice.  Thorn use the same disc fork for 26/650B/700c wheels which will change the geometry more than slight changes to fork dimensions.

Thanks a million for the detailed breakdown and the numbers really helpful, clears up a ton!
Especially appreciate you pointing out the Surly Disc Trucker 700c fork had no idea it was such a close match (45/390 mm), super useful tip since it's much easier to get hold of here.
Thanks again for taking the time!
Cheers,
Karol

Thanks heaps for the tip about skipping uk vat, Yeah, ive check it now and it's deducted at purchase, but then Polish customs adds 23% import VAT plus shipping value, plus customs 5 procent and carrier fees. It still adds up quite a bit unfortunately.
But really appreciate the heads-up anyway!

People sometimes do not realise that goods going out of UK can be sold UK VAT free and consequently pay VAT twice.
