Following with interest, have a good trip, hope the weather is as nice there as it is here, though I suspect it's still windy.
When I went to Hoy, we crossed on the small ferry where the bikes had to be manhandled on, can't remember where we boarded but it was an interesting crossing.
Not sure if that wee ferry you took is running. Word was, it was out for repair. It went/ goes from Stromness to Linksness.
I took the car roll on and roll off one from Houton to Lyness.
I did think of returning to the mainland on the ferry you took but then I'd be further from Kirkwall on landing.
I'm pretty cautious with times when visiting islands.
Today for example I went to Rousaay. I went around it in less than 2 hours, with frequent stops. I had estimated 3+ hours.
Caught and early ferry back.
Yes, weather is still good and no strong winds.
Rousaay had a few naughty hills but stunning scenery made up for sore legs.
Cheers.
It's my fourth time here so happy to pass on any tips if you're coming up again.
In May I'll be on Shetland. A lovely but very different island to Orkney.
