Good day to you, one and all,
Yes, I still draw breath and have given the Grim reaper a thoroughly good thrashing. 1-0 to me so far.
Now, down to business. We have for sale here a beautiful specimen that I am selling for my widowed neighbour and worthy of close inspection - the bike , that is.
The history as far as I can ascertain is that the 1st owner bought it for £3400 in July 2015 according to the invoice. He sold it after only 31 miles.
The deceased owner had it only 6 months before dying of brain tumours. Memo to self to nail that Grim Reaper next time we meet!!
I doubt if it has covered 1500 miles judging by the tyres and the mans health. It has been stored in a very dry garage for the last 6+ years.

The bike is located in God’s Country - Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Naturally, I took the bike for a spin and it didn’t fail to put a smile on my face - anything does these days though.
Seriously folks, this is a gem. I would like the users of this forum to have 1st choice before advertising elsewhere.
I am happy to answer any questions but you do realise I don’t have a direct phone line to the other world - yet. I’m working on that.

Sounds like a great bike. I’m sure there will be a lot of interest.
My first Nomad had a similar back story. I always felt encouraged to ride it far and wide, which I did.

I am asking an honest question - do you think the price of the Nomad is too high, given that I have stated I am open to offers?

I would have bought it pre diagnosis for my tour and paid £1500.00 with no concern at all.

Not one offer or enquiry has been made. That suggests one of two things - the price is too high or there are no buyers out there - at present.

I am about to post it on the CT cycle forum where, no doubt, it will get slagged off and I have to be realistic about the whole situation.

Yes, I will emphasise that it is open to offers but veiled insults are another matter.

I have seen a couple of Nomads that have been withdrawn because the reserve price has not been met and in one case, no offers at all made for it.

Even the red Raven that has been posted has had nobody enquiring / sniffing about it.

I may have missed the boat as regards cyclists who like touring. They have made their plans and are already touring and geared up.

Maybe it is because since Brexit, our duration in Europe is limited, especially for a sustained and extended tour and such a bike is not required?

I know that if I was to advertise it for only £5.00, some hard nosed punter would ask if that included delivery?

On a similar vein, my friend is selling his gloss black Raven 562L. I know it has only covered 1000 miles max.

It is mint, immaculate the last time I saw it. His number is 07970 040 005. I would prefer if you dealt with him directly.

It has a rear rack, Tara front rack. He may well sell his Vaude panniers. A lovely set up.

I do not want to appear as trader or dealer. Simply a coincidence of two people wanting to sell Thorn bikes in immaculate condition and have asked for my help in posting the ad’s.

I think it's an absolute bargain, half the cost for so few miles, someone is going to be very happy.
But it is also a specialist machine, those someones are going to be few and far between.  This forum has a handful on enthusiasts, other forums will have a wider audience with less specific interests.  There may be a potential buyer looking now, or it might be a while before one comes along. If there's a hurry for a sale, then nothing beats eBay, simply for the reach.  it's a gamble and they take a chunk of the cash, but a sensible reserve can mitigate that.  otherwise just keep plugging away till the right buyer comes along. 
I don't think reducing the price will find you a buyer, how low would you go? How high will someone go if it's not the right bike for them?

I agree with PH, the price really is a bargain Hoot especially given the bike condition from the pictures and also since its the S&S coupled model. Thorn no longer offers the S&S couplers for their latest version go anywhere Nomad touring bike so this bike will really appeal to those who want a bike to pack down smaller for flights as they travel about the world. A custom frame alone made from a bike frame builder with S&S couplers might set a person back a price around the region what you are asking for your complete ready to ride touring bike so in my opinion, for the right buyer, a bargain. Best of luck with the sale.
ps. ebay sometimes has the 80% off final value fee so worth waiting until that comes around before listing there with a buy it now/best offer button for 30 days. Up to you if want to offer delivery but my experience here for this kind of item, I'd accept cash on collection only as the payment option.

Hi, I'm trying to sell my Thorn Sterling currently just below your advert. It's a similar design to your Nomad in 858 rather than 969 tubing. It was at £1250 and I had no interest shown. I'd prefer to sell it via this forum rather than resort to eBay or anywhere else. My thinking (which maybe wrong) is that viewers of the forum will be acquainted with the quality of the brand and probably be familiar with the Rohloff gear system. Yesterday I reduced it to £900 and had my first interested email. I don't know the answer to your question. We have quite niche bikes which probably appeal more to older riders, so our market could be smaller. Harley Davidson face an existential problem in that their machines seem to appeal mainly to a generation of riders that are literally dying out, lets hope we're not facing the same problem.

Personally, I'd leave it advertised at that price for a bit longer (a month or two ?), then try reducing the price. But not by too much, a lightly-used Rohloff hub is quite valuable on it's own.

And put it on several sites. The Thorn forum doesn't have a huge following and I suspect that a majority of viewers here already have their bikes, though there is always N+1 to consider.

Proposing shipping (at buyer's cost) would help, this should be slightly easier with the S+S couplings, but it does add the hassle of dismantling and packing.

I can really only echo what the others have said, no way is it over priced.

It's a 'tool' of a bike - made for a specific purpose and few bikes can fulfil that roll as well as this one can. I sincerely hope that the 'right' person comes along, buys it and rides away into the sunset.

Please don't keep lowering the price and end up (sort of) giving it away. It's an absolute beauty and at circa £1,500, a complete bargain.

Yesterday I reduced it to £900 and had my first interested email.

I noticed that and turned the figures over in my head.  Had that been advertised when I was looking for another hub I'd have jumped in.  Clean hubs rarely sell for under £600 and I'd have been confident of getting more than £300 for the rest.

Apologies for the late replies to you all but I have been away from my computer.

I am truly thankful for the positive response. You have verified my initial exuberance and confidence in the asking price.

You can imagine how my eyes lit up when I saw it there in the garage, yabbering that a clean up and a tickle wouldn’t go amiss.

She queried the tickle part and I said that was without the slap and……

A bit like ‘discovering’ a Mk2 Ford Cortina 1600E in Aubergine in an old persons garage who wants shut of it.

You have all echoed the same thoughts and given me something to go back to the lady - namely that I wasn’t being too exuberant with my pricing.

I did ask you members for opinions on pricing because, albeit you are perhaps prejudiced in favour of Thorn bikes, that wouldn’t rule your head in a fair asking price.

On the other hand, offering it to another forum of Ebay, I will have to explain the virtues of such a machine only to be shouted down’ by the non-believers and pagans who worship solely derailleurs.

Let’s see how it runs and hope that a returning cyclist from a tour has been enlightened to knowing the benefits of owning a Thorn bike.

Another consideration is that those planning to do a tour during this northern hemisphere summer will have already done their shopping so sellers have to wait patiently until someone planning to make a tour starts looking around for suitable transport.

The bike is not equipped with CSS rims or a splined sprocket.

However, being upfront, my Raven has CSS rims front and rear, Cinq 5 with Powercharger, Son 28 dynamo, Logo Evo rear carrier, Tara front rack, Ergon 3 cork grips, Thorn Comfort bars and....

a Clickstand 

If the Nomad didn't fit your spec, my Raven might....and then I would buy the Nomad.
