Nomad Mk3 tyre clearance (size 61L)

I am changing from a Mk2 Nomad to a Mk3 Nomad I have noticed that for my frame size at least (size 61L) tyre clearance appears more generous than stated in the Thorn literature

I have tested mounting the 27.5×2.8in version of the G-One Allround tyre on a 30mm internal width rim and there is still 6-8mm of clearance either side for the chain stays and seat stays. And more importantly it seems possible to fit these tyres with mudguards as well.


Measurements below for anyone who is interested

At least partly, probably because the G-One Allround tyre isn't really 2.8 in.

In my experience, most Schwalbe tyres are smaller than advertised.

My Ribble has 2.8" G one on the rear & it has very little tread compared to my Ritchey front tyre .

Very informative and thanks for the photos.
That difference might simply be because what people consider suitable clearance is both subjective and dependant on use. 
Hope you like the new bike, be interesting to get a comparison once you've done some miles. Was there a particular reason for the swap?
