Yeah, I find that the half meter long adjustable wrench that I use, plus a large chainwhip on my chain (not belt) sprocket works wonders.

I do not remember why I bought that big adjustable wrench several decades ago, but I think it was one of those times where the cost of the tool was cheaper than the cost of hiring a mechanic to work on my truck.  It might have been that time I had to change out the timing gears on my Ford F250, being a student at the time i could not afford to pay mechanic wages.

I use the squeeze technique, wheel on lap, spanner and chainwhip a few degrees apart, both hands together and squeeze.  It surprised me how much easier this is. also feels more controlled.
