Bursitis
« on: June 09, 2017, 09:52:59 PM »
Anyone suffered from Bursitis?
I'm on antibiotics due to a swelling over one elbow.
Not to painful. Looks worse than it feels.
I'll spare you a snap.

One cause theory is repetitive strain injury. So I wondered if it was linked to my riding.
However the past months have been quite low mileage.
And it's only one elbow and I've not changed my riding position.

Fingers. Crossed the antibiotics clear things up.
Rather ominously, the doctor said that if things aren't better by Monday it's a hospital appointment.

Antibiotics?
Have you had tests to confirm an infection?
Bursitis is usually just an inflammation, due to overuse or something, antibiotics would be no use, painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication would be more normal.

<nods> Agreed with Rual. If antibiotics, then it is some sort of infection, not just inflammation, where perhaps corticosteroids might be injected or oral NSAIDs prescribed.

I've had tennis elbow from repetitive stress, and I just (re)tore my right bicep a couple weeks ago, so those are both injury related. Can't quite square antibiotics with anything similar. Could they be anti-inflammatories instead, Matt?

Sure sorry you're not feeling top-notch, Matt, and even worse if it is painful. Healing thoughts your way for recovery soonest!

All the best,

Dan.

Thanks folks
From what I recall the doctor saying; there is a small fluid sack covering the funny bone. He thought this was infected and causing the blister/ skin lesion to form.
He was concerned that the infection could spread to the joint/ bone. Hence antibiotics.
Minimal pain. More like an intermittent itch.
Looks awful, so Mrs Matt insisted I visited the medical center this morning.
Fortunate to be offered an appointment within 3 hours.

I just bugged you about this on Facebook, then saw the update here that answered all questions.

Boy, Matt...keep an eye on this thing, willya? Really concerned about your arm and of course, you're attached to it!

Denise sends her best as well and supports Mrs. Matt in her insistence you see about it.

All the best,

Dan.
