Vehicle for the bike
« on: February 13, 2015, 01:49:15 PM »
I was searching the net for ideas re. a good vehicle for transporting a bike. Coincidentally, I came across this first. And... oh, here's the link:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/9002644745/in/set-72157633064830733

Brilliant!  We have got a Citroen C3, which I can just jam an unseparated Moulton into.  I don't want a bike roof rack or the bikes hanging off the back of the car.  I have started to look at vans, but don't want anything big.  I was wondering if a Citroen Dispatch might do the job.  It might be alright for camping out in too.

Hi All!

Something very like this rack pictured in your link above is available ready made, marketed for use in pickup truck beds. Adapting it to a minivan really is brilliant!

Plus 1 -- no, +2! -- for the double-Thorn content, Ian!  ;D

All the best,

Dan.

I'm doing my thinking outloud here:  I don't like roof racks or those that hang off the back of the vehicle. In the UK if a vehicle is classed as vanthere can be insurance/road tax implications. An MPV sounds like a good idea, particularly if if will take an upright bike with its wheels on. An estate might be a good compromise if you are happy to rest the bike on its side. I used to have a Citroen C5 estate which was like a tardis and I do miss its capacity. Perhaps one the newer Citroen MPVs might be worth a look. Also, the VW Cadi Maxi. If I can find £40K down the back of the sofa then it might be VW California.  ;)
