India March/April 2015 Delhi to Udaipur Rajasthan area
« on: November 28, 2014, 05:18:55 PM »
Hi there

My wife and I would like to do some early northern hemisphere spring cycling and have fixed our sights on Rajasthan

I'm a strong cyclist, my wife not so much. We bought a Cannondale tandem from SJS cycles many many years ago and have recently upgraded to a semi recumbent Hase Pino http://hasebikes.com/84-1-Tandem-Pino.html which we would like to take with us.

So first question is this. Has anyone got any contacts out there, either an individual or local tour company who could organise some accommodation for us and provide a driver and vehicle for two weeks or so.

I know Explore - 'The adventure travel experts' do a trip there, but we are looking for alternatives at the moment

Cheers

Nigel

Hi Nigel!

Sorry your query has received no replies. Shortly after seeing it, I made inquiries of friends and unfortunately came up short to date on anything that might help.

Will keep looking.

Best of luck on what looks to be a fabulous tour.

Dan.

Hi Nigel,

A couple of sources which might be useful -- I don't know if you have checked either of these:

1)   I just did a "Delhi-Rajasthan" search on crazyguyonabike.com, and generated 179 references.  Here's the link:  https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/search/?query=Delhi-Rajasthan&main_type=all   You might try posting a request for advice on crazyguy, in the "Forums" or "Resources" section.

2)   In 2005, my daughter and I spent a month in the Mumbai-Rajasthan area (travelling by train) and we found the Lonely Planet Guide to India to be an excellent resource for planning routes and accommodation. (Even in paperback it's a bit of a brick at nearly 1100 pages!)  But, its information on cycling resources & contacts is limited.  Lonely Planet does have its own forum, "Thorn Tree", and you might find some assistance there.

Good luck in any case, and take care on the roads, especially in the cities.

Hey Nigel

Depending how 'daring' you are , but India in general is a good place to go on your own. We cycled there 4 times on our own and its alwyas good. You'll just need to know where you want to go and what to see.

Theres always a cheap hotel and even more better quality ones if money isn't an issue. trip advisor dot com is always good.

As for a driver, any town will have enough taxi's wanting to take you and your bikes. Just make a price out before and establish what your are paying for and not paying for.

even thorntree on lonely planet can be good for advice on operators
