My parents had a dry cleaning buisness in Liverpool [Syndey suburb] until recently. The local magpies would come to the front counter for their daily meal. They would even bring their young when they were old enough to fly. My mum would swim laps at the local pool every morning and walk to the shop afterwards. She would be the only one walking in the street not getting swooped during the nesting season.

They don't really faze me. The helmet does a good job of protecting my bonce.

Not to mention that they are a protected species in Australia so taking pot shots could land you in quite a bit of hot water.

Hi a lot of council's in New Zealand have teams that go out and Shooting, Poisoning, and Trapping Magpies

This is for the safety of a people that Cycle, Walk, Ride Motorcycles, etc.
Magpies are pests in New Zealand just like Possums!

Whilst we were on holiday in NZ a few years ago, the subject of non native species came up, our guide at the time was a Maori lady who, with a wry smile, said that eventually all non native (species) would be eradicated !
Not sure exactly what she meant !

Yes one day their may not be any Human left in New Zealand because all Human in NZ have migration from overseas.
Yes maori are from far off land, came to NZ about 900 years ago
