A week in the Hebrides
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:48:46 AM »
Just back from taking the Thorn tandem on its first loaded trip - a week's jaunt in the Hebrides. Some rather challenging weather in the first couple of days, plus we both picked up a nasty cold.
The tandem did very well indeed - no problems with the Rohloff, the S&S couplings, the spokes or the tyres. It was a balanced ride from the moment we rode out of the car park in Oban.
Have done the first Rohloff oil change, slightly earlier than the bike's first anniversary.

Good stuff.
I'm just back yesterday from a two week tour from Ullapool south to Skye then across to North Uist, Berneray, Harris and Lewis, returning to Ullapool yesterday. Couple of damp days first week around Loch Maree but after that fantastic weather on the islands.
Photos to follow once I get them sorted and up on flickr.

Well in comparison to our 2012 trip, which was 9 days wall to wall sunshine, the weather this year was rather varied! Toughest days were the Wednesday (Lochboisdale to Lochmaddy) and Thursday (Lochamaddy to Maraig). Still enjoyed it, though!
