Hi jags!

Despite my disappointment in B&M's reflector redesign over earlier models, I am pleased overall with my B&M HL Lumotec IQ Cyo R Senso Plus nearfield LED headlight and consider it a good value for the money.

I like the Cyo R nearfield 'cos it lights up to within about a meter of the front wheel, allowing me to see glass and other bike path hazards in time to avoid them. it is also nice for tootling along on dirt roads at night, which I find myself doing surprisingly often when looking for camp at the end of the day. The beam remains bright and largely even throughout its coverage area, though it does have a hotspot in the center, unlike earlier models that provided even illumination throughout.

Unlike Andre's preference, I like the Senso option that allows the light to come on on its own. It works well for my needs 'cos I can leave the light *switch* on yet the light stays off in daytime so maximum dyno power goes to charging. If I enter a tunnel or something, then the light comes on to meet that need and then turns off again for max charging -- a without my intervention. If it weren't for my charging needs, I'd find the Senso option superfluous just as Andre does.

The one you linked to has the daytime running lights and I tend not to prefer it. I *think* the one you want if you wish to duplicate mine is here: http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1004/a11624/lumotec-iq-cyo-r-senso-plus.html I'm unsure because the store uses the wrong lead photo and makes no mention of nearfield in the description.

The Philips Saferide is also a good value in an LED headlight with a very good beam. If you wish USB charging at a good price and high value, then Rualexander's AXA Nano Plus is a terrific package. I prefer the Cyo R's nearfield beam, but I already have a separate charger, so I have a bit more freedom in choosing a light for features other than charging.

There will be three versions:
Lumotec IQ2 Eyc N plus (With stand light)
Lumotec IQ2 Eyc plus (for bottle dynamos)
Lumotec IQ2 Eyc T senso plus (Stand light and day light LED's)

With a suggested price of 50 euro, it will probably sell for even less after some months. Logically it ought to obsolete the IQ2 Cyo RN (40 lux near field) and similar, since it has better specs and are cheaper, but B&M never seem to retire older models though they sometimes tweak them a bit. They still sell their halogen bulb front lights like the "Round" or "Oval", so maybe the IQ Cyo will fall in price, or get "tweaked" with another LED or similar.

even though its expensive,but it does according to that  photo light up the whole road and chard your phone at the same time . i like it. ;)

As promised, here's preliminary review observations of the Philips Saferide Dynamo headlight.
(No beam comparison yet, 'cos the dynamo wheel has still not yet arrived)

It looks like Philips has changed the mounting bracket a bit.
But it is still significantly flattened on along a large part of its length where enclosed within the relatively losely fitted reflector / cable-guide.
It is also still stamped with some lateral channels across where the bracket is intended to be through-bolted to the fork-crown.

Philips bracket dimensions: 3.94mm (where entirely round), 5.05mm by 2.63mm where flattened inside the reflector and 3.94mm x 3.50mm where lateral channels stamped

Given that the lamp, whilst compact, is quite heavy, I can see why this light has a tendency to bounce up an down / flex the native bracket.

I therefore took the warranty voiding risk of splitting the reflector and replacing the bracket with an Edelux bracket (bought on the same order from Bike24)
Edelux bracket dimensions: 4.58mm where entirely round (the bulk of the bracket) and 4.10mm x 4.75mm where it has been flattened to increase the friction contact area when bolting to fork-crown.

This results in a much more rigid mount.

Overall I am quite impressed with the build quality of the lamp unit itself.
The switch has a good feel to its mechanical operation, although I think gloved-hands might have a bit more difficulty operating it.

Just a bit of a shame about the relatively flimsy / unsubstantial wire bracket.

And the reflector / cable-guide is a bit pointless.
I did file-out the channels inside the reflector and re-fit it as a cable guide
but given the angle(s) of both the original Philips bracket and the replacement Edelux bracket
and the resultant angle of presentation of the re-fitted reflector means that this reflector is ineffective
(specifically it points down at the ground at a 45-degree angle)

I'll update this with a further Edelux vs Cyo 60 RT vs Philips Saferide once the new wheel arrives.

Are you familiar with BUMM's best bracket, the nylon 471LH on p14 of the catalogue Dan mentioned yesterday? http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/Downloads/B&M_2013.pdf This is a sturdy vibration-killing bracket for heavy lamps; I use it because it gives my lamps elevation over fat tyres and fatter mudguards. I wonder if it would fit in your application: it's a pretty big-section bracket in both directions.

Hi Andre,

The problem with alternative brackets for the Philips Saferide 60 / Dynamo is that the mounting "boss" on the underside of the light is rather wider than the B&M light boss.
On B&M lights the boss is 10mm wide. On the Philips light it is 22mm wide.

Take a look at the modification(s) done to the Saferide here: http://swhs.home.xs4all.nl/fiets/tests/verlichting/koplampen/Philips_saferide_led_dynamo/analyse/index_en.html to reduce the mounting boss width to just 10mm

Unfortunately this opens up a water ingress point.

Hence my choice to use the eDelux wire bracket that I was able to bend open to accomodate the original 22mm boss width.
(I already knew of the strength of the eDelux bracket because I have an eDelux light on my RST)

So the Philips Saferide is now very securely attached to my spouses's RST.

I see it now, Ian. This could get to be a spendier hobby still if you trash an expensive lamp trying to improve its mounting.... Thanks for the information. Conclusion: with the Saferide, one should order the proven bracket.
