Horrifying wolf-chases-cycletourist in Alaska story
« on: July 12, 2013, 04:39:40 PM »
Hi All!

For someone like myself who just can*not* outrun dogs while I'm riding my loaded touring bikes, this account is sort of the ultimate horror story:

Hoping this is not a sign of things to come.

Best,

Dan.

Alaska is a rough place. When I was researching IDITAROD a novel of The Greatest Race on Earth, my huskies, when I was a couple of minutes late with their dinner, tried to eat me. And a wolf when I was down snapped it's jaws within inches of my face but backed off when I cut it with my knife. The other wolves ate it and decided I wasn't lunch yet. You can get a free short story based on the experience by clicking here: The Survivor

Here's Gino D'Achille's famous illustration of the huskies who tried to eat me; real friendly fellows. Understandably, I didn't get a photo of the wolf who came even closer. Click on the cover to read the book; it's about the eponymous sled dog race., and a wolf pack that collides with the finish of the race.
