Astounding coincidence, Jim, but I've found things of that sort seem more common in cycling than elsewhere. Maybe it is in part a matter of the right tool for the job being more obvious. Those Workcycles are really something when it comes to carrying cargo. I'm seeing more and more extended-wheelbase cargo bikes like the XtraCycle or Surly Big Dummy being used for touring, but not so any of the"Long Jan" or forward bakfiets style like you fellows have. My Workcycles bike is not as awesome as my brothers but still it is nice for around town:



The problem here is the hills. I got a 22 tooth sprocket to see if I can lower the gears - I wonder what sprocket is on it now? Not an easy bike to fiddle with!

Dan I'm just phoned up NZ Surly suppler today about price for a Big Dummy and have check My spare parts and have all that I need to build up a Big Dummy just laying around my place 
I'm looking to use one to do my full Weekly shopping in one go, Plus use it as a Market Stand for a new little side line at our Saturday Morning Market  Selling Walnut's and Walnut oil's, Soap's, etc..

Utility bikes are coming on strong in the general market, and one sounds like a good deal for your planned business.

It'd be nice if Thorn did a version with Rohloff. The "Nomad Ute" sounds about right to me.

Walnuts are great! When I was but an infant, my family harvested the walnuts on our property and the proceeds paid the property taxes each year. Taste good and satisfy the tax man all at once; can't beat that!

Hi Jim,

If you hold your finger over his gorgeous head of hair (which I will not mention again, promise);  you can see yourself!  Only maybe younger?  Will not mention that again either!

By the way, what is the GVW of your Workcycle bike?  I have heard of some tremendous amounts of weight carried on some of these.

Yeah, how did my brother get the hair? He is about nine years younger, but I didn't have hair nine years ago either!

My bike is rated to carry 75 kg of cargo. A notch up from my Nomad that's rated for 59 kg! The bike itself weighs about 60 pounds, compared to about 40 for the Nomad. My Workcycles bike is the 61 cm size which is really a bit big for me. But with that fully upright posture, you can really see and be seen! It is nice in traffic!
