An update
« on: July 03, 2012, 05:27:25 PM »
Not been posting on her much recently. About 3 months ago to my great shock my wife at the tender age of 44 had a heart attack. As you can imagine it has been a stressful 3 months. Luckily following an emergency operation to fit a stint she has made a very good recovery and has been told that she can start exercising as part of her recovery. On Sunday we took delivery of our (new to us) Thorn Voyager tandem and have so far done a 4,6 and 10km trip. Am not sure I will get her to join me on my century rides but it is a start.

My thorn nomad is going strong having covered about 2000km so far this year. I am toying with the idea of moving the RST on as it is not geting much use. The idea was to use it when I had nothing to carry but I so rarely get out on the bike it seems a shame to let it sit there. A measily 120km this year. Considering replacing it with a thorn Ripio to allow wider tyres and protect the nomad over the winter. Lots to think about anyway but for once not the most important thing to think about at the moment.

Andy,

I'm so sorry to hear of your wife's recent illness. A heart attack is a terribly serious thing for the person involved and for loved ones, and has such a great effect of lifestyle and activity during the healing phase and well beyond. I know some of our members are dealing with similar issues themselves, and are far more able to relate with firsthand experience than I.

Please pass on our best wishes and remember the Forum is a great resource as she continues in the next phase of her recovery -- exercise. Perhaps doing so on a bicycle (and a tandem Thorn, at that!) will make it a bit easier. Having you at the helm can only help, and it is so encouraging she is able to ride.

Andy, as you ponder what to do with the RST, I'm sure you'll receive many offers and suggestions, and if you decide to sell, remember our Private Classified > Bikes For Sale category. I'm certain you'll find a ready buyer soonest.

Best wishes to you both; nice to have you back aboard.

Dan.

Wow, Andy, that really would turn a person's life up-side-down! The tandem sounds like a beautiful way to adapt. May you both enjoy many happy years on and off the saddle!
