Drivetrain compatibiity question
« on: March 11, 2013, 09:37:15 AM »
Im going to be replacing the drive train on my audax with a compact double and just before I went out and spent real money I thought I'd ask to see if I have this right.

Bits I'm looking to buy: shimano 105 shifters, 50/34 compact double, front derailleur, rear GS derailleur, 5700 chain, and a sram 11-32 cassette.

Now as I understand it the sram cassettes are fully compatible with the shimano kit, and the 105 GS derailleur has a max cog size of 32t and a 40t max capacity, so I should be within limits. Have I got this right??

Second related question, is there a benefit of going for the Ultegra level shifters? What do they have over 105 apart from a small weight saving? Ditto with the front derailleur (not the back derailleur as the ultegra one ha a max cog size of 30t, and not the compact double as the ultegra one looks fugly - yes I am a little shallow...)

thanks!
