"Flying on the bike" has new meaning
« on: June 21, 2012, 08:49:07 PM »
Hi All!

FBike, a Czech company, is hard at work developing a flying bicycle.

Say what?

Yes, it seems FBike are indeed putting their efforts into developing the bicycle version of the Moller SkyCar.

Looking a bit like a duralumin Surly Pugsly ( http://surlybikes.com/bikes/pugsley ) crossed with an attic ventilator and a pedelec drivetrain, they have developed a cool website and some pretty neat videos. Even more intriguing, a prototype is scheduled for test flights this August.

Those test flights won't be long, as flight times are estimated at only 3-5 minutes.

Regardless, I love stuff like this. I dreamed of such things as a kid, growing up on a steady diet of Jules Verne and Edgar Rice Burroughs books. Practical-schmactical, this is bicycling...combined with flight. How could it possible by better? I know! Add Ortliebs and Rohloffs! That'd make it a sure-fire entry on my Need.Want list. And, if it's on the Innernet, it has to be true.
