Tyre pressure question
« on: October 27, 2010, 12:29:11 PM »
Hi, I am running my RST with a pair or Mavic EX721 rims, claimed to be extreme MTB downhill rims I believe.

The sticker on the rim mentions maximum PSI for 2.1" tyres as 54psi.

As I am running 1.25 tyres (which are about the same width as the rim!!!!) I want to know what I can put in my tyres - 54psi is below  the Panaracer TG's minimum range, and it can take up to 100psi.

I like hard tyres, but having read stories about people experiencing catastrophic rim failure, I want to be sure...

I have currently got about 70psi in the rear tyre, and this is still softer than I would like.

Any thoughts?  Thanks

The XC 717 looks similar to the EX 721, that can go to 90PSI at 1.25", though 2.1 to 3" tyres are recommended for the EX 721's. The EX721 is made from Maxtal alloy so is strong.

I run 1.25's now on some old wheels with Mavic XM317 rims on one of my bikes at 90PSI and have had no problems, the rim sticker says max PSI 113 for 1", 49PSI 2.3".
