This Thorn Nomad Mk 2 expedition touring bike in Tonka yellow dated December 2017 was built for me a 6 foot tall male with 33 inch inside leg. Size 620M. According to Thorn, the larger 620L would suit a rider of 1778mm (5ft 10 in) to 2006 mm (6ft 7in). So I assume the 620M range would be slightly less than this, hence being ideal for me.

The bike has spent most of its 8 year life disassembled in a cardboard box in a New Zealand garage. For the three months a year I visited NZ it would be assembled, have it’s Rohloff oil changed and be used mainly for local trips around Glenorchy. I also did 3 multi-day New Zealand trails. It has done I estimate less than 3,000 miles as can be seen from the lack of wear on the original tyres.

The bike has a cross bar height of 795mm at saddle to 900mm at stem. Mid point 850mm.

The bike is in very good condition with the original Dureme tyres. There are minor signs of wear and tear including some small patches of clear lacquer topcoat which have peeled off exposing the yellow paint but overall it is in excellent condition.

The back 4 inches of the right hand back of the rear pannier carrier was bent down 10mm during transit back from New Zealand but I have straightened it out.

It is equipped with a hot red Rohloff hub, red Son 28 front dynamo and light. A red Sinewave USB charger is included. I never found the charger that useful as I tended to cycle too slowly! The frame can be split using S and S couplings. Once split it fits neatly into the strong cardboard storage and shipping box I built.

The bike is sold WITHOUT the Rido 2 enhanced PSG saddle shown in the photos. It had a new chain and had the annual oil change in January 2026.

The bike can be shipped to a UK address in the cardboard box for £50 or collected in person from Cardiff or Newcastle Emlyn west Wales.

I am not looking to buy, only commenting here.

If you have the S&S coupling wrench, the S&S grease, or any luggage for it, I suggest you mention that.  If one or both rims are CSS, I also suggest you state that.

Hi, thanks. I have TWO coupling wrenches and spare spokes. No S&S grease though, I just used standard lithium grease. No luggage. I still need that! The back rim is CSS - I never even knew what that meant until I just looked it up on Grok  Many thanks!

To be honest, that price is crazy for a 26", rim-brake bike in 2026. The world has moved on and you’re asking someone to invest almost new-bike money in a format for which there are less and less replacement options. And that’s not even mentioning the bad bottom-bracket design of the Mk2 (fortunately fixed in the Mk3).

Thanks for your frankness. I really have no idea what is a fair price or the current state of bike technology. It cost me £3,800 in 2017 but that was with VAT. I also looked at the Thorn site and saw this t.ly/8r7d- at £2,300 + VAT. I take your points on board entirely. No point in asking crazy money even for a bike which has seen very little use. The market will decide, and the market isn't crazy, so I'll reduce it from £2,100 to £1,800. (£800 for the Rohloff hub and £1,000 for the rest of the bike?)

What nonsense. These bikes are still available from Thorn, prices from £3,500 and in this spec it'll be around £4,000.  So half price for a lightly used bike, if it meets someone's requirements, it's a bargain.
There's nothing bad about the design of EBB which has been around for over a centaury and Thorn used for twenty years.  I've never come across a single issue with one that didn't arise from mechanical miss-use or incompetence. The design Thorn use now eliminates most of that, but it doesn't function any better.
If you want a discussion, maybe the classifieds is not the appropriate place for it.
