Excuses my ignorance

Just wondering which frame out of the nomad 2 and nomad 3 is more rust proof as I see the new ones (nomad 3) are ED coated

All other things being equal ED coating is a useful barrier.  Of course, all other things are never equal!
Whether you need that protection depends on a whole range of factors, partly where and when you ride. 
Two of my other chats three steel frames are ED coated I have no concerns about the third.  All three get an internal spray if a acf 50 each year.

Is ED coating the best measure against rust ?

I think I read the nomad 2 was powder coated ? I know nothing about this stuff

If I get a new Thorn bike I REALLY (x100) want it to be a bike that lasts a lifetime if possible and am willing to be diligent to prevent any rust or minimal rust . I’m up in north east Scotland , cold windy rainy foggy haha

So perhaps rust prevention might sway me towards either the nomad 2 or 3 (if I went for a nomad)

ED coating is not a top coat, it's a very thin hard coat inside and out applied at manufacture and painted or powder coated over. A short description here, the first google hit, I'm sure there will be many others.  Apparently it isn't new technology, though a few years ago I's never heard of it, now pretty much all the steel bikes coming from Taiwan and China seem to have it.

ACF-50 is a rust inhibitor, much loved among the motorcycle fraternity, it isn't the only one, it's the only one I've used.  It isn't as long lasting as some of the others, but has the advantage of neutralising any minor rust before it takes hold.

It's always hard to know if any of this works - I do XYZ and my frames doesn't rust, there's no way of knowing what would happen if I didn't.   As I say in the other thread, it takes so little effort, it makes sense for me to do so.
