Axiom Radonnee Bar 10

Hi,

I just recently bought a Axiom Radonnee Bar 10 handlebar bag from SJS Cycles. Can anyone tell me if this is supposed to have a solid box construction? I can move the front and back panels by pushing on the bottom of them. They are not fixed completely onto the sides. I am not talking about panel flex. The fabric is completely welded though.

The reason I am asking this is because I bought this to replace my current handlebar bag - Avenir Waterproof Bar Bag also bought from SJS Cycles . It is basically made from a plastic box covered in waterproof fabric. I don't have much experience in handlebar bags so I was expecting the Bar 10 to be constructed the same way. I am only concerned that the product may be defective.

I haven't fitted to the bike yet until I can figure out if that is just the way it supposed to be constructed.

Just in case someone else buys this bag and wonders the same, here is the reply I got from Axiom:

The Randonnee Bar Bag is constructed using a hard plastic which does have flex to it but are not completely welded together at the bottom or sides.  This space allows for the bag to expand slightly to accommodate the items you put inside.

I bought the same bag handlebar, inside my bag there was a small strange part and i don't know what is its fonction ? ...

It's a stem brace which stops the bag dropping down towards the front wheel. See pics showing how the mount should be fitted to the handlebar of your bike. It's a great bag which holds a lot of stuff and it is 100% waterproof. I use mine all the time

To be honest the clamp actually grips the handlebar really well if tightened properly so there is little chance of it slipping forwards. I think the stem brace is more of a precaution if anything else. I have never had the brace move in use and I carry a lot of stuff in my bag including a heavy bicycle lock.

I'm glad to hear that is a strong bag and well waterproof. I bought this bag handlebar for his capacity around 10 liters, it looks nice also with the small pocket in front. i hesitate with the "Ortlieb Ultimate6 L plus" but it doesn't have as much capacity (8.5 liters) and there is no pocket in front ^^

However, on my Axiom bracket, the footprint "anti loosening" of the nut is not well designed, the plastic is not enough strong to resist at loosening of the screw.  So the nut turn inside when you want loosen the screw.
i have therefore made a spacer in aluminium to fix this problem.



As well, i bought this bag under the Name "Axiom randonnée 10" and on my bag it is written "Randonnée 11"

Is it the same for you ?

Hi,

My bag has the phrase 'Axiom Performance Gear' on it but nowhere does it say 'randonnee ...'. The packaging definately stated it was a randonnee 10 bag though but I threw the packaging out a long time ago. I also bought mine from SJS Cycles and would never doubt that I have received anything other than a genuine product from them. I don't think you have anything to worry about, it's most likely that you have received a newer model. I appreciate what you say about the nuts, I never feel as though I can tighten them enough but I have never had the bracket come loose or slip. It's a great bag and I would buy another one if the one I already have ever needs replaced. It's well made, fit for purpose, and it looks like it's going to last me for a good few years before I ever need to consider a replacement.

Just checked again, the wording "Randonnée 11" appears under the detachable (I forgot it came off) map/phone case on my bag. So you have the same bag as me. You have nothing to worry about though, it's a quality product that should last you for a good few years. It's also 100% waterproof - tried and tested in the wettest of Scottish weather (the Highlands of Scotland). Anyone familiar with Scottish weather will appreciate what I am talking about.
