I will stick with my Nelson Longflap. Where I go, I do not need to worry about the sides of the bag hanging up on a tree to my side.
Since I use drop bars, I think I am locked into a handlebar bag that is narrow enough to fit. The bikepacking bags would never work for me. On my recently built up rando bike (a non-Thorn), I can fit the handlebar bag but it is tight. See first photo.
Frame bags are pretty hard to size when virtually every different bike has different triangle geometry. I wonder how many frame bags they will offer for different sizes and shapes? I will stick with my cheapo framebag that I got off Ebay for my Nomad, I got lucky with an exceptional fit, third photo.
Don't get me wrong, I am not a bikepacker. But with a suspension fork on my Nomad, I was looking for additional places to put stuff since I only had rear panniers on the bike. I did not want to have unsprung weight on the front.
I expect that Ortlieb will sell a lot of these, as the other competitors like Revelate Designs are not inexpensive so there is some room in the higher quality area for such products.
