Bit of a longshot but has anyone experience of the savanna way in NT/QLD AU? I know its a long route with plenty of dirt road but beyond that...

Thank you, that is a great find. My plan was to do it in reverse to that and missing out Kakadu ( been there many times already ) but its a great resources for distances, water, camping etc.  Any ideas re tyres for that ride? Mondials or something similar I'm thinking, 26' x 2' ? A lot will depend on dirt road conditions and whether or not the grader has been out.

I have not toured up there (though a few friends have), but have ridden in the outback elsewhere. I would reckon that Mondials would be excellent tyres, and tougher than most MTB tyres. You could use the 2.0", or get the 2.15" if you felt the dust and sand was going to be a bit more of a concern. I rode 26x2.15" Mondials around Central Australia and about 50% of that was riding on tarmac - they were fine tyres to ride. Great for the softer surfaces, no punctures.
