Archive hour
« on: February 04, 2015, 03:51:12 PM »
This is such a time sink I know but: I was rummaging around trying to find a bit more about my Mk1 Nomad (LA 130202) and its original spec' and I came across this archive of previous Thorn models; anyone heard of a Thorn Nemesis?!  Its not easily searchable and you can only read forwards by clicking the word 'Next' ; I'm sure there is a work around somewhere. Anyway, I screen-grabbed a sizing matrix to measure my Nomad against so its tape measure time for me. Well worth a browse though.

Yes.  :)

Ian,

If you click on the word-link "Index" in the upper-right corner of the first brochure of the page you linked to, you can go directly to the section you want:
Nemesis: http://web.archive.org/web/20010309204717/http://sjscycles.com/26solobrochure/solobrochurewebp11.htm
Nemesis attention to detail: http://web.archive.org/web/20010309203132/http://sjscycles.com/26solobrochure/solobrochurewebp12.htm
26in size and dimension matric: http://web.archive.org/web/20010309203941/http://sjscycles.com/26solobrochure/solobrochurewebp18.htm

Resembling the slightly later short wheelbase XTC, the Nemesis lacked any pretense at full-on touring and its handling was described as "twitchy". The Nemesis seems to have had its heyday in 2001-2002. Frame and fork only (including headset and stainless screws) cost £799 in the 4March 2001 brochure. As a standard-spec bicycle, it was offered at £1249.

A drool-worthy photo of this 26in-wheeled cyclosportif can be found here: http://s22.photobucket.com/user/onbike/media/reducednem.jpg.html

Mention of the Nemesis is also made here: https://www.hewittcycles.co.uk/download/C_2003-01_Bikes-of-the-year.pdf

All the best,

Dan.

Thanks for that Dan. I should have scrolled down the page further after hitting 'Index' Impatient? Moi? Surely not.  Thanks also for the other links; the Archive hour  is now officially extended ;)

For the record: The tape measure tells me my Mk1 Nomad is a 560L. I've just got to locate the number 67 somewhere about it to confirm that, if thats possible.

I love a good "hunt" Ian, and the detective work behind it. Best of luck on finding the "67" on your Mark 1 Nomad.

I had the chance to see AndyBG's in person, and they really are something special.

All the best,

Dan.
