Thanks for that Dave. I always thought mine was a MK1 but it does not have a quill stem so must be the later MK2.

There is now another one on ebay at a good starting price of 350. The original one is now offered at 950 or best offer and I would say that somewhere between the two is the value of these bikes.

I love mine and think they are great

My MK1 was a complete joy but it was a tad too small for me so off she went :'( to the UK Lake District I recall, where I am sure she is earning her corn and giving the rider endless joy as he flogs up Honister Pass.

I am confused. The bike in the pictures has a Reynolds 531 tubing sticker on it, and it looks like its derailleur only mounting at the back. Is it actually a Thorn nomad??

Yes, that is a Nomad.

But, if this is technically a Nomad Mk 2, then the Nomad Mk 2 as we know it is really a Nomad Mk 3! It might be simpler to call this a Nomad Mk 1 1/2.

Confused? You won't be, after this weeks episode of 'The Nomads'!

It does get confusing when the same name is used for different bikes.

The original Thorn Nomad was a derailleur bike and was more akin to the present day Sherpa. This went through a number of iterations; initially with quill stem, then with A-head stem and then I believe with a change of tubing from 531 to 725.

The bike you are referring to is the Thorn Raven Nomad which as the Raven part denotes is designed around the Rohloff hub. This is on its second iteration, the first being designed around a standard fork and the second being designed to allow changeability with a suspension fork.

Hope this is roughly right and sheds some light on it
