Could could possibly live with rim brakes but an old bike I had disc front and rim back and I am on 5th rear wheel. So prefer disc. Must be disc rear as I would not be happy have to pay for a Rolhoff equipped wheel to be replaced.
JB, if brakes wear out a rim by thinning the sidewalls, the hub can be reused by replacing only the rim. The labor cost would be no different than replacing the rim on a bike with derailleur drivetrain.
A rim like the Rigida Andra has some pretty thick sidewalls, or you could go with the Rigida Andra CSS, a carbide-coated rim that is extremely wear-resistant and would provide long rim life without need for a rear disc.
Best,
Dan.
