Spoke gauge question

I have a querry about spoke gauge. Rohloff advise on using sapim race spokes with 2.0/1.8/2.0 size which should be 14/15g but sapim race spokes seem to come in 14/16g see sjs:http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/spokes-14-16g-sapim-race-silver-dept861_pg1/ and many other sites, do sapim measure their spoke gauge differently? as I would have thought that 14/16g is 2.0/1.6/2.0?

On the SJSC site there are DT Swiss 14/15g spokes (2.0/1.8/2.0) which is sized as I would have expected, see: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/14-15g-dt-competition-double-butted-spoke-with-12mm-brass-nipple-pack-of-6-prod815/

I would have put it down to a mis-print if it had not also been the case on many other sites. Am I missing something?

Squinting at the phone screen -- and my wheels -- in the sunshine, I think the Rohloff-compatible spokes used on my Nomad may be "Race" model, shown here: http://www.sapim.eu/spokes/butted/race Last time I checked, my spokes measured within 0.1mm of 2.9/1.8/2.0 depending on whether I measured over the embossed SAPIM lettering or not.

Thanks for the reply. My query was about the listed spoke gauge rather than their dimensions (2.0/1.8/20). Sapim Race spokes seem to be listed as 14/16g on many sites on the web, I was wondering if this is from a mis-print that has been copied and pasted throughtout the internet as their dimensions mean that they should be listed as 14/15g surely.
Am I being thick and missing something or am I correct and all the 14/16g listings are mis-prints? they do state dimensions of 2.0/1.8/2.0.

Hi Iain!

Sorry I misread your initial query. Yes, I think this is a case of a typographical error in spoke gauge being repeated. The decimal numbers look spot-on. Perhaps Dave Whittle can enlighten us if this is not the case.

Such things have happened before. I was engaged in negotiations to test some panniers several years ago, but the capacity and dimensions were mis-reported in the company's initial description and repeated by every seller in their boilerplate ad copy. They were much "lighter" for their size than other bags of the reported size. I figured out why when I measured them!

You're wise to ask, as sometimes manufacturers change specs without notice. I was rocked back on my heels when I found one of my favorite bicycles was not made with the stated tubing despite the brochure listings and the tubing stickers.

Thanks so much for the kind wishes on the training and upcoming tour. The rides are going well. Hoping to back-up today's ride with another hundred-miler on the Nomad tomorrow and a 200km a bit later in the week, weather and schedule permitting.
