Hmm. Cougar (mountain lion) sighting...in my (!) neighborhood, where I walk daily. Mama and her cub:

For those unfamiliar with them, a bit more information is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cougar They don't really bother people very much at all, but can take livestock ranging from chickens and goats to horses and cattle.

Lots to eat here'bouts. Heron rookery, Canada geese, lots of ducks, nutria, opossums, raccoons, dogs, cats. Sightings and predations have been more common in town this year, but I'm really hoping this one can avoid problems with people and perhaps move on. It always saddens me when the animals do what they do and it brings them into conflict with people. The outcome is rarely good for the animal:
