Thorn EXP Rohlhoff *SOLD*
« on: May 07, 2014, 06:43:24 PM »
Now sold. Thanks for your posts!

The story of this bike is that I bought it from SJS to do a round the world trip. Then, before it was delivered, I bought a recumbent bike to ride for fun. It was so much fun I set off from London heading for Sydney on it, never thinking it would survive the distance. It did! (photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/124352831@N05/ ) So my poor Thorn EXP has hung upside down in my garage, unused, ever since. It's high time it went to a good home. It has done about 20 miles from new!

Unfortunately there are no markings on the BB as I show in the photo. The length from the centre of the BB axle to the top of the down tube is 20" ( measured along the down tube ). I hope that helps you. I am 5'10".

The Rohloff eXp is the most versatile bike in the Thorn range; it will do everythinga Raven Tour will do... except it will carry even more weight... shouldyou need it to! (Or it will carry the same load with even more poise). The sealed frame and “531 super tourist” twin plate crown fork, is beautifully fillet brazed, it has manyunique touches and, because it is painstakingly handmade in the UK, it is almost twice the price of a Raven Tour! Should you wish to carry lots of kit, on extended tours, over the worst terrain, you should really try and afford this bike!

What a fabulous bike accompanied by an equally fabulous recumbent-based travelogue. I'm sure someone will be interested in an almost pristine EXP. As a matter of interest are there any letters stamped under the BB?

Think I need to go to Specsavers; I can't make out any letters on my screen. Numbers yes. Regardless, its a lovely bike just crying out to hit the road.

All I can make out is 70311, I think. Any idea what that means?

I've got a PM into him (on another forum) as I agree, it does look lovely and it's my size I reckon.

Cheers

Peter, it says for "a strong powerful rider who wishes to carry heavy kit", which rules me out. But a beautiful bike for someone who wishes to do the long haul.
Best wishes to Mr Dunning on the sale, and whoever gets it is getting a cracker.

Regards Alfie
