Screechy brakes
« on: March 03, 2006, 11:05:13 AM »
Just got my Thorn Raven with XTR brakes on ceramic rims. Front brake is great but the back brake is loud enough to wake the dead. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of adding an arch to stiffen it up, or changing pads. Any ideas most welcome,
thanks.

Try in order
  • Check the mounting / pivot bolts are tight (8NM)
  • Increase the toe in
  • Put some talcum power on the rim (I hear this can work!)
  • Place two rubber washers either side of the pad spacers
  • Switch to ceramic specific pads, cool stop are good  (if you don't have them already)
  • Add a brake booster)
  • Buy earmuffs!

Good luck

Mea Culpa, I didn't know you could toe in those brakes! What an idiot  I am! THe last set I had, you couldn't do much with them, but that's no excuse, I'm just an idiot.

Anyway, now they are toed-in and thoroughly sorted, as they say, and are awesome brakes!
Soz, a bit of a time-waster, this one.
