Red under Red Downunder

My daily cycle-commute on the very red Thorn Audax Mk 3 follows a picturesque route. Unknown to most, my main reason for working is to enjoy this wonderful cycle-commute through central Canberra.

This week I had to stop occasionally and enjoy the autumn scenery.
This pic proves once again that red attracts red.

Brilliant stuff, Graham!  Your Audax looks almost subdued, properly autumnal, beside that flamin' tree.

Here, we've done our two months of March, and lurched into July with a spring-ish transition of about 5 days.  Temps are now in the high 20s/low 30s.  The tulips, barely poking their green heads above ground a week-plus ago, are now in full bloom & in danger of getting scorched. Even the black flies are in danger of dying an early death 'cos of the heat.  I've heard sympathy for the tulips (donated by the Dutch government -- during WWII, the Dutch government in exile lived in Ottawa) but none for the black flies.

John our recent spring seasons have also been blisteringly hot, and summers more subdued. Odd, but the reverse has been noticeable. Hot air being pushed south from central Australia by northern monsoons seem to be the part of reason.

Autumn here is definitely the best cycling season.

The Dutch scattered all over. Northern Australia hosted many Dutch refugees (from Indonesia) during WWII. Thousands were lifted out from Java to Broome by Flying Boats...Catalina planes.
