Hi All!
I've been going through and reviewing my bookmarks and realize I keep returning to two online gear calculators in preference to others.
The first is Dirk Feeken's superb tool over at
http://www.gear-calculator.com/# It has a true GUI and calculates based on allowed chain angle and cadence and allows comparisons between gearing schemes and is just fantastic for comparing derailleur and Rohloff steps and ranges. The printable options are good as well.
The second gear calculator I like very much is Mike Sherman's, here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~mike.sherman/shift.htmlMike's calculator figures rear derailleur capacity, and also produces a semi-log graph, similar to Dirk's. However, Mike's also displays comparative speed over a given RPM range and shows gain ratio, rollout, and speeds in gears for a give RPM.
Together, these have been really useful tools and I play with them a lot. Perhaps they will be useful for Forum readers as well.
Best,
Dan.
